At Excellence Day Nursery we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS), as set out by the Department for Education. Ofsted, our governing body, use this framework when inspecting nurseries and early years settings and give gradings according to how well these guidelines have been interpreted and applied.
We use the EYFS document as a guideline to ensure that we are offering a play-based curriculum which supports all aspects of a child’s learning and development, and that the needs of every individual child are met including children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL).
The EYFS identifies seven areas of learning and development. We use these when observing, assessing and planning to meet the needs of children as individuals.
The areas of learning and development ensure that we continuously challenge children and help them to develop and succeed.
The seven areas of learning are split into two parts:
As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in the four specific areas. These are mostly used for children over the age of 3 years old but are also relevant for younger children.
